Staying Safe

The Accounts That Are Really Me, and the Ones That Are Not

Every few weeks someone sends me a screenshot and asks: “Is this you?” Usually it isn’t. There are fake accounts using my name, my photos and sometimes my exact bio, and some of them are very convincing. So here is everything in one place.

Impersonators copy creators for one reason: you trust the face, so you might trust the account. They message people first, offer “exclusive” deals, ask for gift cards or a payment to a new link, and then disappear. If you lose money that way, it hurts you, and it hurts me too, because it was my name on the message.

How to check in ten seconds

  1. Open my official links page. Every account I really run is listed there, with the exact handle.
  2. Compare the handle letter by letter. Fakes add a dot, an underscore, a number, or a word like “backup”, “new” or “private”.
  3. Look at what it is asking for. I never ask for payment in a private message, never send you to a “new page” in a message, and never ask for gift cards.
  4. Still not sure? The verify page walks you through it.

The accounts that are really me

My accounts are listed below.

The full, current list is always on my official links page. If I ever change a handle, I update that page first, before I post about it anywhere else.

The accounts that are not me

Anything that is not on that list. That includes “backup” accounts, fan pages selling my content, group chats that claim to be run by me, and any profile that messages you first and asks you to move somewhere else to talk. I don’t run any of them, and I don’t get anything from them.

What helps

If you spot a fake, please don’t argue with it and never pay it. Report it to the app as impersonation and, if you can, send me the link from one of my real accounts. Every report helps get these taken down faster.

Copies of my content get reported and removed as well, which is why some links you may have seen recently no longer work. That is on purpose.

Thank you for looking out for me. It means more than you know.
